Presents

The first presents were given in Roman times during the festival of the Kalends around the Winter Solstice. High ranking officials were obliged to give gifts to the Emperor. These gifts were known as Strenea

They were originally branches taken from the grove of the Goddess Strenia, however Caligula did not like olive branches, so it was changed to honey and cakes
