Fleabane

Botanical Name: Erigeron canadense

Family: Asteraceae

Other Names: Canada fleabane, coltstail, middle fleabane, prideweed

Description: Stems: unbranched. Lower leaves: oblanceolate, short stalked five teeth. Upper leaves: linear, entire margin 2.5-5cm long. Flowers: numerous, bell shaped 0.5cm long, broad, whitish

Native to: Europe, North America

Habitat: Damp meadows

Parts Used: Herb, seed

Actions: Astringent, diuretic, tonic

Constituents: Volatile oil containing d-limonene, terpineol, linalool, germacrene D, nerolidol, beta caryophyllene, alpha humulene, dipentene

Flavonoids –apigenin, luteolin, quercetin.

Terpenes –spinasterol, beta sitosterol

Plant acids –vanillic, caffeic, succinic

Description

Perennial hairy, bushy. Leaves alternate greyish underneath heart or arrow shaped and stalked. Basal leaves oval with narrow base. Flowers bright yellow daisy like in clusters July -September
