Nature Fairies

Adaro - Soloman Islands

These are a type of merman

They are thought to be created from the evil side of mankind

They are depicted as being like a man with a fin tail, a horn and having gills behind is ears

They travel in rainbows and waterspouts and live in the sun

They can kill humans with poisoned arrows

 

Aes Sidhe - Irish

Other Names: Aos si

They live underground in burial mounds

 

Ahuizotl - Aztec

This is a strange creature - half dog and half monkey with a hand at the end of its tail.

Its name means water monster in Nahautl

It eats human flesh

 

Alux - Mayan

Other Names: Duende

They are invisable knee high creatures, when they do appear they dress in traditional Mayan dress

They live in forests, caves and stones although they may move elsewhere for offerings

 

Askefrue - Norse

Other Names: Askafroa, Eschenfrua

They are spirits that live in ash trees whom have healing powers

Offerings to them are made on Ash Wednesday

 

Asparas - Hindu

They live in fig trees and can give blessings to humans

If they see a educated man they will seduce them to the point of exhaustion

 

Asrai - English

This a type of water fairy

The description of them vary some say they are small and some say they are tall

They look a lot younger than they are

Sunlight kills them and they turn into water

These are a forest fairy that are helpful to hunters

They are the spirits of the trees

They are especially associated with oak trees

They include gnomes (earth), undines (water), sylphs (air) and salamanders (fire)

Male spirits of the mountains, forests and air

They are a type of water spirit with long arms that eat children

Spirits of the trees

If their tree dies then they die too

A term used for a mermaid

 

Huldra - Scandinavian

Spirit of the forest

They live in rocks and trees

If a human offends them they eat them
