House Fairies

Aitvaras - Lithuanian

Other names are: Kaukas, Pukis, Damavykas, Sparyžius, Koklikas, Gausinelis, Žaltvikšas, and Spirukas

They are born from an egg of an 8 or 9 year old rooster and appear as a black or white rooster with a fiery tail when indoors but outdoors they become a dragon

When they die they become a spark

They bring good and bad luck to the homes they adopt stealing grain and gold for their adopted family

It is said the devil sells them for the price of a person's soul

 

Bannik - Slavic

This is the spirit of the bathhouse

 

Chin - Chin Kobakama - Japanese

It is a type of house fairy similar to a brownie

They clean rugs and carpets

 

Domoviyr - Polish & Russian

This is a male spirit who is the grandfather of the house

It does jobs for the family at night in return for a slice of bread

 

Kikimora - Solvenian

Thought to be married to the Domovoi

They are believed to the the spirits of unbaptised spirits

 

Killmoulis - Scottish

They inhabit mills and can be helpful or mischievous

They have no mouth but a big nose through which they eat

He wails when disaster is about to befall the miller's family

Ovinnik - Russian

Spirit found in the threashing house, barns and can be found caring for livestock
