Fairy and Faerie Superstitions and Folklore
Many fairy places have myths concerning walking around them nine times under a full moon. It is said that this either heals or opens the door to fairyland
It is often said fairy food and drink should not be consumed in fairyland, however if food is given directly to a person especially if they are from a person in still in the human land than it can be eaten safely

Wearing a four leafed clover is said to enable a person to see the faeries
Farmers are said to plough crooked furrows not because they are drunk but so that the fae cannot follow them
People who wear green are said to be in danger of becoming controlled by the faeries
Reversing your hat or an item of clothes is said to fool the faeries
If a person tried to run away from the fae then they should run towards the sun or they will be caught
Eggshells may be used by the faeries as a boat
Standing stones and stone circles are said to be built by the faeries (or the devil)
Often when churches were built the faeries (or the devil) would move the foundation stones further away to another site until the people agreed to build the church where the fae wanted it to be
Faeries are often seen around ancient burial mounds
Where there is oak, ash and thorn are found together there is an entrance to fairyland
Carrying a silver coin will deter fairies
Wearing odd socks will confuse the fairies
If you say your name backwards you will be released from the fairies spell
Never call fairies by the name fairy
If you eat in the woods always leave an offering to them
Flax scattered across a bedroom floor will prevent fairies from entering
If ivy grows on the wall of a house they will not enter
