Dorset's Fairy Places

Castle Hill, East Chelborough

ST 551054

The people of the area wished to build a church at the foot of this hill. They started building the walls but during the night the fairies moved the stones to a stie at Lewcombe Manor. The villagers moved the stones back and rebuilt the walls. The next night the stones were moved by the fairies once again. The faires won and the church was built elsewhere.

Stourpaine Church

ST 860095

The bells here are said to be rung by the fairies and elves. The bell tower has a small door believed to be for the fairies. They sprinkled dewdrops onto the bells so that they rang softly.

Blue Pool, Near Wareham

SY 935834

When the mine here closed in the 18th century it filled with water and formed a pool. The minerals in the water turned it blue and meant that nothing could live within it. It is thought the pool is bottomless and dark fairies live there which can only be seen by lone visitorsjUI~###############################################################################################.

The fairies promise eternally youth to those who bathe there but the youth is achieved by drowing.0
