Suffolk Fairy Places

Stowmarket

This is another place where fairies have often been seen, although they vanish when they see humans. Sometimes they stole human babies and left changeling in their place.

Woolpit

The Green Children of Woolpit were believed to be fairy children. They appeared as though they were human children but had green skin. They claimed to be from St Martin's Land where the sun did not rise, but across a large river was a bright land. There were Christian churches in their country. They had been found in the "Wolf Pit", they said they had been following sheep when they had heard bells and entered a cave. When they eventually emerged they were in a place with bright hot sunshine.
