Fairy Toot, Butcombe

ST 520618

Toot means a small hill and usually a tumulus or burial ground.

This one was 60 yards long, 20 yards wide and 15 yards high, until it was destroyed in the 19th century. It had a north - south axis

The field by it is known as Fairy Field.

It is also a place of healing.

In 1788 a number of chambers and skeletons were found on the site

Both fairies and goblins have been sighted here
