Derbyshire Fairy Sites

Chestefield Spire

It is said one or two imps twisted the spire before going to Lincoln Cathedral

Nine Stone Close, Bakewell

SK 226626

This is a group of four standing stones where fairies are said to dance or are stones that turn into maidens who dance.

Hob Hurst's House, Beeley Moor

SK 287692

The fairy creature here was known as the Hob, or Hobthrust. It is thought he was a brownie

Stocking Field, Calver

This is another fairy dancing place

Thirst House, Topley Pike, Wye Dale

SK 110723

Another Hob or Hobthrust lived in a cave here. Once he was kidnapped by a farmer who intended to make help with household chores. The Hob screamed loudly and the farmer felt sorry for him and let him go. The Hob ran into a cave where there was a secret door into fairyland.

Close by is a spring with healing powers that he may have been guardian too.
