This large circular stone close to a cavern named Fairy Kirk is seen as an entrance to the fairy world. As the water rushes around the stone the water appears to be boiling.

When Edenhall mansion stood there was a enamelled glass vase from Syria or as legend had it the fairies of St Cuthbert Well within the grounds. It is believed if the vase was broken then bad luck would befall Edenhall.
The vase is now to be found in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London

If you make a wish at the bottom of these stone steps and can reach the top of them without touching the sides then the wish will be granted. Fairies have been sighted running up and down the steps. In the nearby woods the track is a former corpse road
